Donald Ray Breske was born on August 11, 1938 to Theodore and Margaret (Wenger) Breske at Waubay, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. He attended Breske #206 country school near the family home north of Waubay and later to Waubay High School. After his education, he helped on the family farm. On May 2, 1959 he married the love of his life, Sharon Utne in Warsaw, Indiana where the couple lived for a short time. They returned to the Waubay area where they farmed. In 1966, they moved to Waubay with their four young children. For the next 25 years, Don managed the Farmers Elevator in Waubay and raised cattle. Then he worked for the city of Waubay until 1996 when a stroke forced him into an early retirement. Don had many interests and hobbies, including joking around and telling stories with friends and family. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, gardening, and raising cattle. Don had a love for nature and the outdoors, and he and Sharon went on many camping excursions. After his stroke, he didn’t let his disability limit him. If there was something he wanted to do, he put his mind to it and invented ways to make it possible! Don was a fixture in Waubay, cruising around town on his golf cart! His loving wife Sharon worked hard to care for him in many ways over the years, making it possible for him to do the many things he loved. Don was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay, and he served on church council. He was also on the Farmers Elevator Board and a volunteer on the Waubay Fire Department. He was a proud and active member of Waubay and will be missed by the entire community. Don passed away Wednesday January 30, 2019 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 19 days. He will be forever loved and greatly missed by his wife of 59 years Sharon Breske of Waubay, SD, two sons; Ryan (Connie) Breske of Waubay, SD, Randy (Katherine) Breske of Webster, SD, two daughters; Patty (Bruce) Potter of New Ulm, MN, Denise Lightfield of Watertown, SD, three sisters; Marilyn Baumgarn of Wilmer, MN, Rose (Hermon) Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dorothy Derringer of Edwardsburg, MI, three sisters-in-law; Mona Mikkelson of Waubay, SD, Virginia Breske of Warsaw, IN, and Cheryl (Mick) Breske of Vermillion, SD.
