PIERPONT- Doris Loe, 93 of Pierpont died on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at her home. Her funeral will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday, October 23, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont, Paul Kosel, S.A.M. with officiate. Burial will be at Homer Cemetery at Pierpont. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster on Thursday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services at the church on Friday. Doris Arlowene Dwight was born on Saturday, August 5, 1916 to Clinton and Irene (Lemmon) Dwight on the farm of her grandparents, William and Laura Lemmon east of Pierpont. She was baptized in the Baptist Church in Aberdeen. She attended grade school in North Andover Township and graduated from Pierpont High School in 1933. After high school she worked as a linotype operator for her uncle who was publisher of the Pierpont Signal. After the newspaper was sold she followed the machine and continued as operator in Britton until the fall of 1935. In 1936 she moved to Tacoma, Washington where she worked at Tacoma General Hospital. In 1939 she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where her future husband, Wally, was living and worked in a café waiting on tables. On April 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Wallace Loe at her grandparents home near Pierpont. After their marriage the couple continued to live in Minneapolis. In 1948 they returned to Pierpont where they operated a John Deere Implement Dealership where she worked part-time as a bookkeeper. In 1970 they sold the business and she retired. They spent time in the summer months at their cabin on Pickerel Lake and the winter months traveling in the southern states including Arizona and California but always kept their home in Pierpont. They traveled extensively including many trips abroad. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Pierpont where she was a member of the Ladies Aide and Circle. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Doris loved to read, crocheting, fishing and kept a diary while on their many trips. Doris passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at her home in Pierpont, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 2 months and 13 days. Survivors include her husband, Wally Loe of Pierpont, SD; one sister, Mildred (Bill) Perrenoud of Sun City, AZ; and a nephew, Mike (Yoshie) Babcock of Wayzata, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Roland, and two sisters, Melva and Leola.
