Duane “Sonny” Johnson, 79 of Webster died on Friday, May 01, 2015 at his home in Webster.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 15, 2015 at American Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon will officiate. Inurnment will be at Ortley Cemetery.
Memorial visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 5-7 P.M. fiksdalfuneral.com.
Duane “Sonny” Johnson was born on August 29, 1935 to Almon and Jennie (Holm) Johnson, Sr. at Waubay, South Dakota. At a young age the family moved to Webster where he attended school and Webster High School. After he received his education he worked various jobs locally and statewide.
On May 18, 1957 he was united in marriage to Carol Manska at Waubay, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Webster. In 1961 the couple moved to Yuma, Arizona where he worked in a Phillips 66 station, they returned to Webster in 1963. He worked for the City of Webster and then operated Sonny’s “66” station until 1974. In 1977 he began working for Mereen-Johnson Foundry in Webster and worked there until his retirement in 2001. After retirement he was a helping hand to anyone who needed his help.
He restored tractors and worked on cars, gardening, flowers and did woodworking. He also had a fondness for animals of any kind.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Webster; one son, Kent (Bobbie) Johnson of Cushing, MN; a daughter, Kris (Jeff) Lindahl of Watertown, SD; two brothers, Almon “Windy” (Barb) Johnson, Jr. of Watertown, SD and Bob (Ihleen) Johnson of Chicago, IL; and three grandchildren, Taylor, Parker and Kailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
