Eilzabeth Pesall Barrie

October 24, 1922 — September 28, 2016

Elizabeth Pesall Barrie 93 of El Paso, TX died on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at El Paso, TX. Graveside services will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 5, 2016 at St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery in Webster. Fr. Melvin Kuhn of Christ The King Catholic Church will officiate. Elizabeth “Betty” Barrie was born on October 24, 1922 on the family farm outside Webster, South Dakota. She fulfilled her dream to travel, first as an Army wife to Shanghai, China and Alaska and in more recent years to Australia, Africa, Europe and North and South America with her daughters. She loved being active, mentally and physically. She attended El Paso Community College and received an Associate's degree and made the Dean's list. She retired after working over thirty years for the government at White Sands and Fort Bliss. She was active in the Business and Professional Women's Club, where she served as president. She loved country western dancing and gardening - she had the nicest yard in the neighborhood, an oasis with turtles. She enjoyed bowling in the Seniors league at Fort Bliss, hiking and traveling with her daughters. One of her most exciting trips was to Australia where she climbed the Sydney Harbor Bridge and the Sydney Tower Skywalk. She also hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon twice in her late seventies. Betty probably liked running most of all. Due to her never give up attitude – she used a cane when she could no longer walk very well - she became known as “The Remarkable Betty Barrie”. She has over 350 medals and trophies from these races. She is preceded in death by her parents Hedwig and Anton Pesall, her brothers: Louis, George and Bill Pesall, and her sisters: Marie Pesall, Irene Sichmiller, Bernice Krier, Hilda Jacobson and Doris Dinnocenzo. She is survived by her son F.J. “Butch” Barrie, her daughter Jackie Elizabeth Barrie and companion Richard Sim, daughter Kathy Barrie Trizna and son-in-law, Dr. Zoltan Trizna, many nephews and nieces and her cousins: Jerald, Roger, Bernard and Leon Pesall and Hyacinth Pesall Kampa. The family would like to thank the staff of Home Instead for enhancing her quality of life over the past several months
