Eldon Stavig, 89, of Roslyn passed away Saturday April 25, 2020 at his home in Roslyn. Private family services will be Friday May 1, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. and will be live-streamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Eldon Wayne Stavig was born on January 12, 1931 to A. Melvin and Edna (Donat) Stavig in Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn, South Dakota. He attended Roslyn High School and graduated in 1949 and last year he and fellow RHS classmates celebrated their 70th High School Reunion. Eldon enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1951 and was honorably discharged in 1953. On November 21, 1954 Eldon married Kathleen Rye at Skudesness Lutheran Church near Pierpont, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Roslyn and raised their two children Jeffrey and Debra. Eldon worked for Olger Olson and Lien Construction Companies, Mason Rust from 1963-1973 and then for the vocational school in Webster until his retirement in 1996. Eldon was a lifetime member of Roslyn Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Roslyn. He enjoyed wood working, traveling around the US and Canada, hunting, fishing, and taking drives around the Roslyn area. He especially cherished his time spent with his family and was very proud to have been recently made great grandpa! Eldon passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 13 days. He is survived by his daughter Debra (Lynn) Zubke of Webster, SD, two granddaughters; Lindsey (Chris) Thames of Sioux Falls, SD and Emily Frankenstein of Lake City, SD, one special great-grandson Christopher Thames V, two step grandchildren; Joe (Deidra) Zubke of Bristol, SD and April (Ben) Ries of Watertown, SD, five step great-grandchildren, two brothers-in-law; Marlyn (Cheryl) Rye of Pierpont, SD and Wendell (Charla) Rye of Claremont, SD, one sister-in-law Betty Stavig of Webster, SD, and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years Kathleen, son Jeffrey, brother Roger Stavig, brothers-in-law; Elser (Mae) Rye and Loren Rye; and parents-in-law; Ernest and Agnes Rye.
