Faye Hoven

Faye Hoven, age 74, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, under the care of hospice at Bethesda Nursing Home Webster, SD surrounded by the love of her family.

Memorial services will be held 2pm Friday, July 31, 2026, at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. 

She was born on March 16, 1952, in Anchorage, AK to Berdell and Irene Cavanaugh. Throughout her life, she was known for her kindness, strength, sense of humor, and devotion to those she loved. She was an excellent cook and baker who took great joy in preparing amazing meals and desserts and was always excited to share them with family and friends. Faye was the original owner of The Shack on Broadway in Fargo and some of her delicious recipes are still on their menu to this day, including her famous pancakes. She also took great pride in the beautiful flowers she had planted over the years, especially those at the family lake home, where she found joy and peace in tending her gardens. Her granddaughters were the light of her life, and anyone who knew Faye could see her beam with pride whenever they were around. She shared her love of music and cooking with her daughters, who carried those passions with them throughout their lives as well. She touched the lives of many and will be remembered for the warmth and love she shared with family and friends. Faye and Duane were also blessed to spend their retirement years together between their home in Arizona and their lake home at Enemy Swim Lake, South Dakota, creating many cherished memories with family and friends. Her faith in God was a guiding force throughout her life, providing her with strength, comfort, and purpose. She was a devoted member of her church and generously gave her time in service to others, directing choir, chairing the Christmas program, or helping in the church office. Her servant’s heart and unwavering faith left a lasting impact on her church family and all who were blessed to know her.

She is survived by her husband, Duane; her daughters, Nicole Pieske and Kelly (Tim) Reed; her beloved granddaughters, Ava Faye, Addison Leigh, and Jacey Grace; her mother, Irene Cavanaugh; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father, Berdell Cavanaugh, and her grandsons, Nicholas and Aiden Pieske.

The family takes comfort in knowing that she is now at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Faye’s wishes were to be cremated. A funeral service will be held at a later date to be published on this site. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bethesda Nursing Home, Webster, SD or Prairie Lakes Hospice in Watertown, SD.

The family wishes to thank the caregivers, hospice staff, and loved ones who provided comfort, support, and compassion during her final days.
