Geraldine Monteith

Gerry Monteith, 81 of Webster died on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Webster, Rev. Justin Iverson officiating. Burial will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 5-7 P.M. with a 6:30 P.M. Prayer Service. Geraldine “Gerry” Middleton Jackson was born on Sunday, December 17, 1933 to Burton and Mary (Kovar) Jackson at Watertown, South Dakota. The family made their home in Vienna where she was baptized and confirmed at the Vienna Lutheran Church. She attended school there and graduated from high school in 1953. She worked at Good Samaritan Home in Aberdeen and later moved to Watertown where she worked at the hospital. She met her future husband while he was home on leave and a patient at the hospital. She married Carl Monteith on October 27, 1957 at the Vienna Lutheran Church in Vienna. After their marriage the couple made their home in Watertown where she stayed at home raising their family. After living in Morris, Minnesota, Mandan and Wiliston, North Dakota they moved to Webster in 1962. She was a homemaker and mother. Carl passed away in November 2005. After his death she continued living in their home. Before entering Sun Dial Manor in October 2013 she was well cared for by her neighbors. A special thank you to Carol Richardt for helping her through those times. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Webster where she was a member of U.M.W. and helped with serving Kiwanis Club on Mondays. She enjoyed embroidering, reading, cross words, phone calls from her family and friends.Gerry loved to bake for others and would bake brownies and cookies for neighbors and Carl's work place. She especially enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. Gerry passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 81 years and 25 days. Survivors include her three sons, Bradley (Lois) Monteith of Andover, Marshall (Karen) Monteith of Greensboro, MD and Warren (Karen) Monteith of Denton, MD; one brother, Larry (Cherry) Jackson of Albuquerque, NM; four sisters, Lorraine Parker of Modesto, CA, Mayvonne Wagner of Tea, SD, Dixie (Eugene) West of Eugene, OR and Gail (Gary) Peterson of Sioux Falls, SD; seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
