WEBSTER- Hattie Ewalt, 93 of Webster died on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 11, 2008 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be at St. Otto’s Cemetery, Webster. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 2-4 P.M. then continuing at the church 6-8 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Scriptural Prayer Service. Hattie Ann Hojnacke was born on Thursday, June 25, 1914 to Andrew and Martha (Burchardt) Hojnacke on the family farm near Butler, South Dakota. She was baptized at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lily. She attended country school near her home and then lived with her parents. On November 17, 1931 she married Florian Ewalt at Lily, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Grenville. In 1936 they moved to Lily where she baked for people and did housekeeping. In 1953 they moved to Webster where she worked in several Webster Café’s and also at Bethesda Home. In 1974 the couple moved to Waubay. Mr. Ewalt passed away in 1990. After his death she continued living in Waubay until 2002 when she moved to Webster. She entered Bethesda Home in July 2005. While in Waubay she was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Altar Society and the couple were caretakers of the church. She loved to bake for everyone, visiting with family and friends, dancing and listening to old time music. Hattie passed away on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 93 years, 6 months and 12 days. Survivors include three sons, Sylvester (Beverly) Ewalt, Joseph (Joyce) Ewalt, Sr. and John (Gloria) Ewalt all of Webster, SD; two daughters, Mary Aadson of Webster, SD and Joan (Bruce) Burns of Lakeville, MN; one sister, Clara Neal of Clark, SD; ten grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, one sister and a grandchild.
