Hazel Meyer, 99 of Bristol died on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. Her funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Friday August 19, 2011 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster. Rev. Charlie Bunk will officiate. Burial will be at Andover City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Hazel Agatha Hemmingson was born on April 29, 1912 to Peter and Nellie (Lien) Hemmingson at Bradley, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bradley. She attended country school near Bradley and graduated from Bradley High School. She then attended Northern Normal College in Aberdeen, South Dakota where she obtained a teaching certificate. After college she taught in the Andover, South Dakota area where she met Elmer Meyer. The couple was joined in marriage on December 24, 1935 at the Hemmingson farmstead near Bradley. They made their home in Bristol where Hazel stayed home to raise their two daughters. In 1959 the couple moved out to Rapid City, South Dakota to retire. In September 1992 Mr. Meyer passed away and Hazel moved to Anoka, Minnesota to be near her daughter. In November 2005 she moved back to Bristol and entered Sun Dial Manor. Hazel was a lifelong member of the Lutheran faith. Hazel enjoyed rose and vegetable gardening and especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Hazel passed away Tuesday August 16, 2011 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 99 years, 3 months and 18 days. Survived and will be sadly missed by two daughters: Maxine (Roger) Inman of Rapid City, SD and Dorothy (Roger) McKittrick of Coon Rapids, MN, sister and brother in-law Marion (Erlenn) Rasmussen, sisters in-law: Verna Hemmingson and Marilyn Hemmingson, eight grandchildren; Terri (Kevin) Pederson, Gregg (Valerie) Sumey, Tad (Anne) VanderVorste, Brent (Farah) VanderVorste, Kari (Tom) Smith, eight great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
