BRISTOL – Herbert “Herb” Horter 97 of Bristol passed away Tuesday June 4, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday June 10, 2019 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. Rev. Chris Strohm will officiate. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 5-7 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Herbert Harvey Horter was born on March 18, 1922 to Bruno and Lisa (Matson) Horter. He was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Bristol. He attended school in Bristol and graduated from Bristol High School in 1942. After graduation, he began his lifelong career in farming. On June 9, 1946 he was united in marriage to Vivian Sandell at American Lutheran Church in Webster. To this union a son Randall was born. The family made their home on the Horter Family Homestead north of Bristol. Herb was engaged in dairy farming as well as small grain farming. Vivian passed away in 2003. Herb continued to live on the farm and operate the farming operation. If he hadn't been a farmer, Herb said he would have been a woodworker. He spent much of his time creating hand crafted wooden works for friends and family and designed and built many liturgical pieces for Bethesda Lutheran Church. Herb was a lifelong member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and also previously served on the Bristol Township Board. He loved going on many road trip adventures throughout the years. Gardening was a favorite activity. Herb joyfully tended five gardens and planted 1000-1500 gladiola bulbs each year. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and loved traveling to Target Field. He enjoyed his morning coffee at The Hot Spot and visiting with friends. Above all else, Herb loved his family and cherished time spent with each and every one of them. He will be forever loved and greatly missed by his son Randy Horter of Bristol, two granddaughters Jamie (Brian Depew) Horter of Lyons, NE, and Brittany Horter and her children Aubrey and Titan Horter of Brandon, SD. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Vivian, brothers Willie, Lloyd, and Ray Horter and one sister Alice DePorter as well as a special friend Ramona Herr.
