Inez Osterhoff

WATERTOWN: Inez Osterhoff 89, of Watertown and formerly of Waubay died on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. Janet Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Ortley Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service (fiksdalfuneral.com) in Webster on Thursday 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Friday. Inez Augusta Schultz was born on Saturday, September 28, 1918 to John and Eva (Tri) Schultz on the family farm in Egeland Township Day County, South Dakota south of Waubay. She attended country school near her home and then lived with her parents until her marriage. On February 12, 1937 she married Ronald Birney. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed near Webster. In 1946 they moved to a farm near Ortley and in 1950 moved near Waubay and in 1959 moved into Waubay. Mr. Birney passed away in 1967. She married Leonard Osterhoff on September 28, 1969. They continued to make their home in Waubay. He passed away in 1977. After his death she continued to live in Waubay until she entered Jenkins Living Center in Watertown in October 2005. She loved gardening and playing cards. She enjoyed helping others and looked forward to visits from her grandchildren. Inez passed away on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 89 years, 9 months and 17 days. Survivors include three sons, Earl (Aloy) Birney of Ardmore, OK, Dale (Yvonne) Birney of Waubay, SD and Larry (Darlene) Birney of Watertown, SD; one sister, Alma (Vernon) Peterson of Houston, TX; fifteen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, a daughter, Beverly and one grandson.
