Irene S. Bloom

Irene Bloom, 97, of Webster, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Bethesda Home in Webster.

Memorial services will be 10:30am, Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster. Inurnment will be at the Webster Cemetery.

Irene was born on December 13, 1927, to Ole and Anna (Pederson) Mikkelson of rural Waubay. She attended a rural school near their home and graduated from Waubay High School in 1945. Irene worked various jobs in the area, including working at the Webster Peabody Hospital located on Main Street. She married Harold Bloom of Webster at the Ortley Lutheran Church on December 6, 1953. They made their home in Wheatland Township. Harold passed away on May 2, 2003. Since then she has resided in Webster.

Irene and Harold enjoyed some nice trips during their later years together one being to Norway with her brothers and sisters. Irene enjoyed the farm life helping with farm work when needed and managing the home. Irene enjoyed sewing embroidering and crafts. She also liked painting pictures and maintaining a big garden and lawn on the farm. She was known as a skilled seamstress and skilled at upholstery. She and her sister Ardys worked on many upholstery projects over the years. Harold and Irene were members of the Egeland Lutheran Church, where she was active in WMF helping with quilting and serving as the treasurer for many years. Having no children of their own, she very much enjoyed her nieces and nephews. Irene loved playing games with them and she was always a sharp competitor. Her kind manner and sense of humor will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and all their children who shared birthdays, holidays, and special events with her.

Irene is survived by her sister Elvina Birney and Ardys Becking, one brother David Mikkelson, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her husband Harold, her parents and grandparents, one sister and her husband Margaret and Cliff Nelson, one brother and his wife Marvin and Janet Mikkelson two brothers-in-law Richard Birney and Jim Becking, sister-in-law Janice Mikkelson, brothers and sisters-in-law Don and Dorothy Camp, Don and Margie Bloom, Earl and Cora Bloom, Laverne and Gloria Bloom and mother and father-in-law Harry and Sadie Bloom.
