ROSLYN- Josie Ronshaugen 100 of Roslyn died on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, December 21, 2007 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn with Janet Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Fron Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday, 4-7 P.M. and prior to services on Friday. Josie Marie Aspen was born on Friday, October 4, 1907 to Sylvester and Caroline (Negaard) Aspen on the family farm south of Langford, South Dakota. She was baptized at Langford Lutheran Church and later confirmed at Roslyn Lutheran Church. She attended country school near her home until 1918 when the family moved to Roslyn. She continued on with school there and graduated from Roslyn High School. She then attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls and received her teaching certificate and taught in rural Day County schools. In 1935 she married Hjalmer Ronshaugen at the Roslyn parsonage. After their marriage the couple made their home on a farm west of Roslyn in Lynn Township. She also continued teaching rural schools except while raising her family. She retired from teaching in 1967. Mr. Ronshaugen passed away in 1984. After his death she continued to live on the farm until entering Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in 1998. She was a member of Fron Lutheran Church where she was active in W.E.L.C.A. and Hannah Circle. She was an excellent cook, a very hard worker and loved teaching. She also enjoyed visits from her family and friends. Josie passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 100 years, 2 months and 14 days. Survivors include one daughter, Mary Christopherson of Webster, SD; three sons, Jim (Mary Jo) Ronshaugen of East Helena, MT, Stephen (Janet) Ronshaugen of Grand Island, NE and Howard (Judy) Ronshaugen of Webster, SD; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a grandson, three sisters and one brother.
