June Edwina Weber was born on May 27, 1923 to Edwin and Agnes (Eddy) Weber at Watertown, South Dakota. She grew up there, attended school and graduated from Watertown High School in 1941. After graduation she attended St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota where she graduated in 1945. She had a knack for telling stories and for the next three years served as child evangelism director in Sioux Falls. She married Peter Bakke on July 7, 1951. After their marriage the couple made their home in Mitchell, South Dakota where she continued to be involved in child evangelism. In 1964 the couple moved to Hot Springs, South Dakota. While in Hot Springs she ran a day care for the next twenty years. Peter retired from his work in 1983 and in 1984 the couple moved to Webster. Peter passed away in November 1992. After his death she remained in her home until entering Strand-Kjorsvig Rest Home in Roslyn in 2012. The couple attended First Assembly of God Church in Webster until it closed. June was a devout Christian and made many Christian Bible story cassette tapes for children. Each cassette contained four stories and songs. In person she would tell the stories with the use of her puppet characters, Willy the Dummy Doll, Shaggy, Fuzzy and the talking bird, Pretty Parrot. She would give the cassettes to day care centers, Sunday Schools and take them to the nursing home, since the stories were good for all ages. When she was able, she enjoyed walking and visiting with people along the way. June passed away on Monday, April 18, 2016 at Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 22 days. Survivors include two sons, David Bakke of Albuquerque, NM and Steven Bakke of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and five siblings.
