LaVerne Gregerson, 87 of Waubay died on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen. Memorial services will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. Janet Miller will officiate, inurnment will be at Lakewood Cemetery, Waubay. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. LaVerne Olaf Gregerson was born on Friday, January 29, 1926 to Arthur and Evelyn (Tucker) Gregerson on the family farm in Morton Township, Day County, South Dakota west of Waubay, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Waubay. He attended elementary and high school in Waubay. After he received his education he began trucking with his father and eventually took over the business. He also traveled south doing custom combining during harvest. On May 18, 1949 he was united in marriage to Margaret Willard at Our Savior’s Lutheran parsonage in Waubay. The couple made their home in Waubay. In the late 1940’s he began Gregerson Salvage, a company which recovered grain from train derailments and grain elevator fires. He continued his trucking business and farmed in the area until the early 1980’s when he sold some of the land and entered it into C.R.P. In 1985 he sold the grain salvage business to his son, Dennis but continued as an active participant. Margaret passed away in April 2005. In October 2009 he entered Manor Care in Aberdeen and then entered Avera Mother Joseph Manor in 2010. He was a member Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed having a cup of coffee and visiting with anyone he would meet. LaVerne passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 20 days. Survivors include two sons, Dennis (Carol) Gregerson and Loris Gregerson both of Waubay, SD; five grandchildren, Collin (Danae) Gregerson, Casey (Dan) Halvorson, Jay Gregerson, Clint Gregerson and Desirae (Jim) Snyder; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two half-brothers.
