Leonard Naessig, 90, of Webster passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at Strand Kjorsvig Living Center in Roslyn, SD. Private family services will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday May 20, 2020 at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Military burial will be in the Webster Cemetery. Services will be live-streamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Walk through public visitation (in accordance with social distancing guidelines) will be Tuesday 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Fiksdalfuneral.com Leonard Frank Naessig was born on November 2, 1929 to Frank and Hulda (Raasch) Naessig in Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Webster. He attended Rusk Country school for eight years and then continued his education at Webster where he then graduated from in 1947. After high school he attended SDSU in Brookings, South Dakota for one year. After his education, he came back to Webster to farm for a couple years before joining the Army in 1950. Leonard was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Shirley Cook on September 20, 1951 in Anchorage, Alaska. Leonard was honorably discharged from the Army in 1952 and the couple moved to Canon City, Colorado where they lived until 1953 before moving back to Webster. He farmed until his retirement in the late 1980's. Leonard was a member of the St. Johns Lutheran Church where he served on the council as chairman and treasurer and also sang in the church choir. Leonard passed away on Friday, May 15, 2020 at the age of 90 years 6 months and 13 days. He will be missed by his wife, Shirley Naessig of Webster, SD; two sons, Craig Naessig of Webster, SD and William (Rajean) Naessig of Webster, SD; one daughter, Gay (Bill) Mraz of Dupree, SD; one grandson Montana Mraz of Pierre, SD; and one brother, Carlyle (Janet) Naessig of Sioux Falls, SD; and three nieces He is preceded in death by his parents, step-mother Jo (Hanse) Naessig and one infant brother.
