Lillian Pies, 90, of Webster passed away Friday March 27, 2020 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Private graveside services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday April 1, 2020 with a live-stream video available at Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. A Celebration Of Life will be held at a later date. Lillian Judith Johnson was born on January 29, 1930 to Jacob and Anna (McCarlson) Johnson on the Johnson family farm near Webster, South Dakota. She attended country schools near Roslyn and graduated from Roslyn High School in 1948. She furthered her education at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota before returning home to teach school in rural Webster. She was united in marriage to Edward Pies on July 10, 1954 at Tabor Lutheran Church. The couple made their home north of Webster where they farmed and raised five children. Lillian worked at Head Start as well as Upton’s Café in Webster before being employed in the dietary department at Bethesda Nursing Home for 36 years until her retirement. After Eddie passed away in 2012, Lillian continued to live on the farm until May 2019 when she moved to Heritage Village apartments in Webster. Lillian was an active member of American Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed working with the quilting group. Lillian loved her many flower gardens and enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, and painting in her spare time. Beyond these creative pursuits, Lillian was a talented cook and baker and liked nothing better than sharing food and baked goods with others. Above all, Lillian loved spending time with her family. Lillian passed away on Friday, March 27, 2020 at the age of 90 years 1 month and 29 days. She will be greatly missed by her son, Tim (Birgit) Pies of Spokane,WA; four daughters: Debra Pies of Webster, SD, Sally Pies of Volga, SD, Melinda (Steve) Zimmerer of Plattsmouth, NE, Barbara (JD) Broderius of Greeley, CO; and five grandchildren: Jamie (Nick) Dethlefs, Abbie and Katie Zimmerer, and Kathryn and William Broderius. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three sisters and their husbands: Sylvia (Earl) Luchterhand, Carola (Earl) Davidson, Marylin (Alfred) Hemmingson; and brother and his wife James (Verna) Johnson; as well as twin brothers, Sherman and Julian.
