WEBSTER- Loretta Kanago, 96 of Webster died on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 20, 2008 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be in St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Thursday 2-4 P.M. then continuing at the church until 8 P.M. with a 7:30 P.M. Rosary and Scriptural Wake. Loretta Frances “Babe” Meuer was born on Thursday, November 2, 1911 to George and Anna (Wattier) Meuer on the family farm north of Webster, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. She attended country school near her home and also attended St. Otto’s Parochial School. After she received her education she lived at home and cared for her mother. On August 14, 1934 she married Lloyd G. Kanago at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed in the Webster area. In 1949 they adopted a baby girl and named her Donna Marie. Loretta worked at Evan’s Café and also at the Dime Store. They also lived in Rapid City and Aberdeen for several years. In 1972 they retired and returned to Webster. Mr. Kanago passed away in April 2003. After his death she remained in her home until entering Bethesda Home in 2006. She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster and was active in Altar Society and a member of the funeral choir. She had a fondness for cats and made sure that no stray cat was left unfed, she kept a well maintained yard and flower garden. She liked taking roadtrips to the country in the spring to see the young animals and countryside. She loved to cook and was always ready for a game of cards. Loretta passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 96 years, 7 months and 15 days. Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Bessie Meuer and Leona Meuer both of Webster, SD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, a sister, Gertrude, three brothers, Lester, Peter and Roy and a step-brother, Albert Fortune.
