Lowell Hanson, 63 of Webster died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Mary House Long Term Care Center in Pierre. His funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, October 31, 2011 at American Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon will officiate. Burial with Military Rites will be at Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Monday. Lowell Kent Hanson was born on Tuesday, October 26, 1948 to Henry and Dorothy (Madsen) Hanson at the Peabody Memorial Hospital in Webster. The family lived northwest of Webster in Webster Township, Day County. He was baptized at Skudesnes Lutheran Church and confirmed at American Lutheran Church. He attended country school near his home, graduated from Webster High School in 1967 and attended college in Ellendale, North Dakota. In April 1968 he entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. After his discharge in March of 1970 he returned to Webster. In September 1970 he married Wendy Peterson at Waubay, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home in Waubay then in the Black Hills, Montana, Wyoming and North Dakota. He worked on the oil rigs, broke horses, did tree trimming, carpentry and worked at Homestake Mine. In 1974 the couple returned to Webster where he owned and operated Bobs Bar until 1977. In 1979 he moved to Eureka and returned to Webster in 1981 and retired due to health. He was a member of American Lutheran Church in Webster. His hobbies included collecting antiques, auction sales, trapping, hunting and fishing. Lowell passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at Pierre, South Dakota at the age of 63. Survivors include one son, Joel Hanson of Vermillion, SD; two daughters, Joni (Chad) Steinle of Brookings, SD and Staci Hanson of Spearfish, SD; two brothers, Dr. Richard (Beaty) Hanson of Eureka, SD and Dennis (Sue) Hanson of Pierre, SD; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
