Lyle Guderian

Lyle Guderian, 88 of Milbank and formerly of Ortley died on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Milbank Area Hospital in Milbank. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay, Rev. James Wilshusen officiating. Burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Tuesday. Lyle Oran Guderian was born on Monday, March 7, 1927 to Harry and Martha (Zubke) Guderian at Waubay, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. He attended school in Waubay and graduated from Waubay High School in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on September 28, 1945 and went to boot camp at San Diego, California. Then in 1946 he boarded the USS General Randall (which was a troop carrier) as a Security Guard. He received his honorable discharge as a Corporal in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1947. He was united in marriage to Betty May Rider on June 12, 1949 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. After their marriage the couple made their home in Ortley where they raised their three daughters. Lyle owned and operated Guderian Garage in Ortley for thirty nine years, retiring in 1987. Several years later the couple moved to Milbank. Betty passed away in October 2012. He recently was a resident of St. William’s Care Center in Milbank. Lyle was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waubay. He enjoyed following the Minnesota Twins, hunting, fishing, woodworking, gardening, quilting, sudoku and crossword puzzles. Lyle also collected stamps and coins and had a rock collection. He also enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. Lyle passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Milbank, South Dakota at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 6 days. Grateful for having shared his life are his three daughters, Linda (Lyle) Randen of Gillette, WY, Nancy (Robert) Rumpza of Waubay, SD and Debra Larson (and special friend, Kevin Pierce) of Watertown, SD; one brother, Ralph (Lillian) Guderian of Lowell, WI; eight grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and ten step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
