Margit Hanson, 88 of Roslyn died on Sunday, July 01, 2012 at Sanford Hospital in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Skudesnes Lutheran Church near Pierpont, Rev. Kristin Ostercamp will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. and prior to services on Thursday. Margit Espe was born on Sunday, March 2, 1924 to John and Thea Espe in Odda, Norway, on the west coast of Norway. She received her education in Odda after which, she lived in Oslo with her aunt Anna and worked at various jobs. It was there that she met Marvin Hanson of Pierpont, South Dakota while he was stationed in Norway during his time in the service. The couple were married in Oslo on October 6, 1945. Marvin left for the United States shortly after and Margit came to the United States on July 4, 1946. The couple settled on a farm in Lynn Township, Day County near Pierpont where she helped with the farming and chores. Marvin’s parents also lived there for a time and they assisted with their care. She and Marvin retired from the farm in 1968 and moved to Roslyn. She worked at a café owned by John and Marjorie Hanson, worked at the Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home for nine years and then started caring for children in her home for some time. Marvin passed away in April 1978. She entered Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in 2003. Margit was a member of Skudesnes Lutheran Church near Pierpont. Her hobbies included knitting and traditional Norwegian baked goods. While on the farm and in town she always had a cat (or two). She was loved by all the nursing home residents and staff. Margit passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 29 days. Survivors include a brother, JohnTor (Synnova) Espe of Bergen, Norway; two adopted grandsons, Beau (Jamie) Brendmoen and their children, Ryleigh, Haleigh and Karleigh of Ashby, MN and Ross Brendmoen of Roslyn, SD; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Olaf, Henry, Arnie Mangne and sisters, Ingeberg Liv, brothers-in-law, Henry (Dorothy) Hanson, Joel Hanson and sister-in-law, Agnes (Allan) Holmquist.
