Marian Gollnick, 82, of Waubay passed away Friday November 6, 2020 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown. Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately for her family 2:00 P.M. Thursday November 12, 2020 and will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Funeral Service Facebook page. Friends and family are invited to the public burial at Waubay Catholic Cemetery 3:00 P.M. Thursday. Those in attendance encouraged to follow social distancing guidelines. Memorials can be sent to Karen Holscher 15141 471st Ave Twin Brooks, SD 57269 Marian Eva Gaikowski was born on March 23, 1938 to Joseph and Mary (Lewno) Gaikowski on the Gaikowski family farm north of Waubay. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Grenville. She attended country school #206 near their home. After her education, Marian helped with the family farming operation. On October 10, 1956, she was united in marriage to Sylvester “Gene” Gollnick at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. To this union six children were born: Karen, Barbara, Lisa, Linda, Eugene, and Julie. The family always resided in the Waubay area. Marian stayed home to raise their children. As the children had grown up, she began to work outside the home first at Evan’s Café and later for the Waubay Headstart Program. She later worked at Bethesda Home in Webster as a cook and retired at age 72 after working there for 31 and a half years. Gene passed away in 1997. Marian continued to live in Waubay and stayed active in the church and socializing with friends. She also worked parttime as needed at The Birdfeeder Cafe in Twin Brooks. Marian was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay where she was active in the Altar Society. She also was a member of the Waubay senior Center where she enjoyed the many get togethers with local friends and neighbors. Marian was a talented gardener and took pride in her beautiful yard adorned with her colorful flowers and plants. She was very honored to have been chosen as “Waubay Yard Of The Week”. Marian also enjoyed playing pinochle, canasta, traveling, visiting over a cup of coffee, sharing her cooking and baking goodies with friends and family, and above all else she adored her time spent with family. Marian passed away at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 14 days. She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her children: Karen (Loren) Holscher of Twin Brooks, SD, Barbara (Jeff) Ross of Rapid City, SD, Lisa (Scott) Schwinger, Linda (Jeff) Gross, and Eugene Gollnick all of Watertown, SD. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, three sisters: Jeanette Okroi of Grenville, SD, Esther Zirbel of Watertown, SD, and Delores Gronke of Waubay, SD; three sisters-in-law: Bonnie Gaikowski of Waubay, SD, Rosemary Gaikowski of Webster, SD, and Helen Gollnick of Watertown, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, daughter Julie, one great-granddaughter Katelyn Grace, four brothers: Stanley (Caroline) Gaikowski, Roman Gaikowski, Henry (Delores) Gaikowski, and Raymond Gaikowski, three brothers-in-law: Ben Okroi, Dale Zirbel, and Ernest Gronke.
