Marlys Buhler, 88 of Webster died on Monday, May 06, 2013 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen. Her funeral will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Groton, Pastor Bill Duncan Pastor Bob McHenry officiating. Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Butler. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 5-7 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Prayer Service. Marlys Lavina Jacobson was born on May 5, 1925 to Michael and Clara (Anderson) Jacobson on the family farm near Andover, South Dakota. In her teen years she was baptized at Temple Baptist Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. She attended Sunbeam School 216 near her home and then graduated from Bristol High School in 1943. She was united in marriage to Eugene Buhler on May 29, 1948 at the E.U.B. Church in Butler, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple made their home and farmed on the Buhler family farm north of Butler in Butler Township. She was a homemaker, raising her family and dedicated her life to making a loving home for her family and provided hot meals and fresh bread to the men in the fields for many years. Eugene passed away in 1994. After his death she continued to live on the farm until the present time. She was very involved in her church and participated in many various women’s groups in the church and community. She taught Sunday School for twenty years, sang in the church choir and also in duets and trios. She also was the Treasurer for the Butler Cemetery Association for twenty years. After the couple retired from active farming they enjoyed traveling, visiting family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting and making many crocheted items for family and friends and was an avid reader of Christian books. Marlys passed away on Monday, May 6, 2013 at Aberdeen, South Dakota at the age of 88 years and 1 day. Survivors include her children, Kathy (Cal) Stirling of Highmore, SD, Patricia (Robert) Sterud of Brookings, SD, Rick Buhler of Webster, SD, Terry (Beth) Buhler of Marion, IN and Darrell (Debbie) Buhler of Coos Bay, OR; a sister-in-law, Elsie Jacobson of Minot, ND; ten grandchildren, Heather Stirling (fiancé, Steve Neumeyer), Jason (Amie) Stirling, Crystal Brown, Michael (Susan) Sterud, Brian (Mandy) Sterud, Heidi (Ben) DeGroot, Zachary, Allison, Kameron and Kendall Buhler; eleven great grandchildren, Bryce Sporrer, Katelynn, Jacob and Lucas Stirling, Nikki Dillon, Paige and Joely Sterud, Haley and Brynn Sterud, Olivia and Payton DeGroot; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and two brothers.
