Marlys Simonson, 91 of Webster died Saturday March 31, 2012 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday April 3, 2012 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn. Rev. Janet Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 5 – 7 P.M. with a 7 P.M. and prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Marlys Carol Baukol was born on Wednesday, December 29, 1920 to Alfred and Julia (Rindahl) Baukol in Webster, South Dakota. She attended school in Roslyn, South Dakota, graduating in 1938. She then continued her education at Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. Miss Baukol was teaching rural school near Bristol, South Dakota when she met Leslie Simonson. The couple married at Fron Lutheran Church on December 9, 1945. Together they farmed in Liberty Township from 1946 to 1984, and raised their family. In 1985 Leslie and Marlys moved to their Pickerel Lake home. Following Leslie’s death in 1986, Marlys continued to appreciate her time at the lake, where many fond memories were made with family and friends. Since 2009, Marlys resided in the Webster area. Marlys was an active, life-long member of Fron Lutheran Church. She enjoyed a variety of activities during her lifetime including gardening, quilting, Bible studies, walking, hardanger, playing cards, traveling, and listening to books on tape. Marlys was loved and admired for her gentle nature, her generosity, her sincere interest in others, her positive outlook despite the challenges of aging, and her steadfast faith in the Lord. Marlys passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 in Webster, South Dakota at the age of 91 years, 3 months, and 2 days. She is survived by two sons, Larry Simonson of Rapid City, SD, and Ron (June) Simonson of Roslyn, SD, one daughter, Loralie (Randy) Wiese of Sioux Center, IA, one sister, Mrs. ElRose Anderson of Blue Earth, MN, three grandchildren, Bill (Jess) Simonson of Roslyn, SD, Erik Wiese and Madelyn Wiese both of Sioux Center, IA and five great-grandchildren, Alexandra, Sydney, Courtney, Silas, and Quinn Simonson all of Roslyn, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter Marjean, one brother Rudolph Baukol, and one sister Julane Hoyer.
