She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Houghton, where she also attended elementary school before attending high school in Groton, South Dakota.

Myrna’s early career was defined by a spirit of service. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, she worked as a nurse’s aide at hospitals in both Britton, South Dakota, and Mauston, Wisconsin. She also spent time working at the Bluebird Café in Groton, a testament to her hardworking nature.

Myrna had a profound love for the outdoors and all living things. She was often found tending to her vegetable and flower gardens or planting trees. Her compassion extended to her many farm animals, and she held a special place in her heart for her horses, cattle, chickens, cats, and dogs.
