Nina VanHunnik, 94 of Webster and formerly of Bristol died on Saturday, June 04, 2016 at Bethesda Home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Bristol United Methodist Church in Bristol, Rev. Ken Ballard will officiate. Burial will be in Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Friday, June 17 5-7 P.M.. fiksdalfuneral.com. Memorials can be directed to Bristol United Methodist Church, C/O Floyd Hansmeier, P.O. Box 136, Bristol, SD 57219 Nina Luvern Easterby was born on March 9, 1922 to Daniel and Nancy (Danielson) Easterby at Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Daniel was attending seminary school. The family returned to Bristol where Nina attended school and graduated from Bristol High School in 1940. After high school she did housework and babysitting in Bristol, worked as a clerk in the post office from 1942-1949 and at Knudsen’s Drug Store part-time from 1942-1949. She was united in marriage to Johnny Van Hunnik on May 21, 1947 at Holiness Methodist Church in Bristol. After their marriage the couple made their home in Bristol and were blessed with three sons, Jay, Terry and Kim. The couple opened Johnny’s Shop in 1947 with the purchase of Joe Jiran’s Shoe Repair Store and operated the store until they sold it to their son, Terry in 1984. In their retirement they traveled throughout the United States, mostly in their motorhome and visited all 50 states and 7 countries. In August 2004 they moved to Heritage Village in Webster. Johnny passed away in September 2011. She entered Bethesda Home in Webster in August 2015. Nina was an active member of the Bristol United Methodist Church. She was also a Cub Scout Den Mother while her children grew up. She loved Bristol and it’s people. She passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 94 years, 2 months and 26 days. Survivors include three sons, Jay (LuAnn) Van Hunnik of Keystone, SD, Terry (Mary) Van Hunnik of Webster, SD and Kim Van Hunnik of Montgomery, AL; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, two sisters, Delila and Elphia, one brother, David and a daughter-in-law, Juleen.
