Orris was born August 6th 1929 in Webster SD. to John Fishbeck and Sophie (Strand) Fishbeck. At the time of his birth his family was living on what is now the Duane Hemmah farm North of Roslyn SD. After living on a few different farms, the John Fishbeck family moved to California in Los Angeles. In 1941 John Fishbeck took his family and moved back to SD to the Knute Strand farm west of Roslyn SD.

John and Sophie moved back to California in 1952 and Orris then rented the Knute Strand farm. Orris married Beverly Amundson on December 27th, 1952, in Britton SD. They made their home at the Knute Strand Farm. Dennis and Dianne were both born in SD. Orris and Beverly moved to California in 1957.

In California Orris worked as heavy equipment operator for Artie Strand digging swimming pools in the Los Angeles area. He then went on to work for the California division of highways as a heavy equipment operator. Orris also worked for the Penny Saver (printing company) during the evenings. Orris and Beverly built a new house in Huntington Beach in 1961. In California, Sherry, Brian, Kelly, and Kevin were born. They moved back to SD on October 1971 and purchased the Clarence Nymoen farm three miles West and one South of Roslyn SD. While there, they dairy farmed, raised hogs, and small grains. Orris and Beverly’s social life was mostly Sundays at Fron Lutheran Church and visiting with neighbors. Due to health reasons they sold the dairy cattle 1989 and continued to live on the farm until 1999. At that time, they purchased a new home in Webster SD. In 2021, Orris moved into the Bethesda Nursing home in Webster SD.

Orris is survived by and will be forever missed by his children Dianne Demarco of Eugene Oregon, Sherry (Brian) Sichmeller and Brian Fishbeck all of Webster SD, Kelly (Curt) Watkins of Watertown SD, and Drs. Kevin (Donna) Fishbeck of Mandan, ND. Orris was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, son Dennis Amundson, grandson Jamie Sichmeller, parents John and Sophie, brothers Roy Fishbeck, James Fishbeck, sisters Mildred Huggett, Denise (Pete) Hook, and Shirley Fishbeck. Brother-in-law Gordon (Pat) Amundson and Elmer (Loretta) Opsahl. Orris is survived by 16 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Orris will be forever remembered as a hard worker who never thought any job was beneath him whether he was washing dishes at the LA International Airport as a teenager or operating heavy equipment for the California State Highway Department or farming. More than anything, Orris gave unconditional love and support to his family and friends. He always had a smile and embraced life with sense of humor.

Beverly was the love of Orris’s life. He shared many memories of their journey together raising children, spending time with grandchildren, farming, and time spent with family and friends.
