Richard Block

Richard Block, 69 of Webster died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at his home in Webster. His funeral will be 2 P.M. Monday May 23, 2011 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel, Rev. Steve Hargis will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday 5 7 P.M. at the funeral home. Richard Alex Block was born on December 9, 1941 to Joseph and Valeria (Wirkus) Block at Waubay, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville, South Dakota. He attended parochial school in both Grenville and Webster, South Dakota and continued on to high school at Webster. In 1964, he moved to Michigan where he began his carpentry career. He was a jack of all trades with many talents. In the late 1970s, an injury forced him into early retirement. In 1999, he moved to Webster, South Dakota where he was presently living with his fianc Judy and their daughter Alexis. Richard was a member of the NRA, National Wildlife Foundation, Arbor Day Foundation, National Garden Club and many, many others due to his continuous generosity. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and especially his family. He didnt know a stranger, as his door was always open to anyone. Richard was filled with love that he has passed on to his children and grandchildren. Richard passed away at Webster South Dakota at the age of 69 years, 5 months, and 9 days. Survivors include: his fianc Judy Moore and their daughter Alexisof Webster, SD, five sons, Mark (Melinda) Block of Webster, SD, Randy Kirshmeier of St. Paul, MN, Scott Block of Port St. Lucy, FL, Richard Ricky (fianc Megan Shelton) Block of Flint, MI, Brian Block of Flint, MI,five moredaughters, Carla (Bob) Richards of Lodi, OH, Dawn (Steve) Harman of Loveland, CO, Shelli (Greg) Wilcox of Lake Odessa, MI, Jodi (Mike) Walt of Burton, MI, Amber Osborne of Clio, MI, SD, six brothers, Gene (Linda) Block of Flint, MI, Harry (LaDonna) Block of Flint, MI, David (Maryann) Block of Paoli, IN, Ray (Willa) Block of Rapid City, SD, Dennis (Marcia) Block of Sioux Falls, SD, LaVern Block of Webster, SD, three sisters, Adeline Goward of Webster, SD, Doris (special friend Larry) Block of St. Paul, MN, Marlis (Bill) Joyce of Corona, CA, two special grandsons, Shawn (Becky) Block of Webster, SD, Mark (fianc Celeste Kampa) Besaw Jr.of Webster, SD, many, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many others that Richard claimed as his own. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Martin Block and one sister Virginia Prax. Good bye Richie you were my first love and will always hold a special place in my heart you gave me a special gift our son Randy it's to bad we couldn't make a go of our marriage but we were both to young. Rest in peace.
