Richard Burton “Dick” Long, 90 of Webster died on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Prairie Lakes Hospital in Watertown.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Webster, Rev. Justin Iverson will officiate. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Bruce.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday 6-7 P.M. ending with a 7 P.M. Masonic Service.
Richard Burton Long was born on Sunday, December 14, 1924 to Walter Gordon and Grace (Chapman) Long at Peabody Hospital in Webster. He grew up on a farm south of Webster where he attended country school. He graduated from Webster High School and then went on to South Dakota State University in Brookings.
On June 4, 1946 he was united in marriage to Harriet Hastings at Kellogg, Iowa. After college he graduated from the Elgin School of Watchmaking in Elgin, Illinois. The couple moved to Milbank where he worked for Christianson and Jenson Jewelry store. In 1948 the couple moved to Webster where he bought out E.A. Locke Jewelry and renamed the store, Long’s Jewelry. The couple were still operating the store at the time of his death. For many years Dick farmed the Long family farm. In July 2014 he entered Golden Living Center in Watertown.
Dick grew up in the United Methodist Church in Webster. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Webster and the Yelduz Shrine in Aberdeen. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing in the area.
Dick passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 90 years, 4 months and 2 days.
Left to survive him is his wife, Harriet of Webster. He was preceded in death by his parents.
