Rita Susan Marie Czmowski was born on May 3, 1944, to Nick and Ida (Gebur) Czmowski in Webster, South Dakota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Otto’s Catholic Church in Webster. Rita grew up attending country school and later St. Otto’s parochial school, before graduating from Webster High School in 1962. She went on to earn her cosmetology certification through an apprenticeship.

Rita owned and operated two beauty salons in Webster, where she formed many lasting friendships with those who sat in her chair. Later, she felt called to care for others in a different way and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She provided home healthcare in the area and later worked at Bethesda Home in Webster, always offering kindness, compassion, and a comforting presence to those she took care of. Due to declining health, she retired in 2012 and moved to Foreman, North Dakota, to be closer to her son and grandchildren. In August of 2025, she returned home to Webster, where she remained until her passing.

Rita was a faithful member of Christ the King Catholic Church. In her younger years, she enjoyed hunting and fishing, and she always found peace in the quiet beauty of the outdoors. Whether it was time spent reading a good book, working on puzzles, playing cards, baking something special, watching her favorite game shows, or taking a trip to the casino, Rita found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Her faith was a steady and important part of her life, and she spent many quiet moments in prayer.

Above all, Rita’s greatest joy was her family. She loved them deeply and treasured the time they spent together. Her presence, her warmth, and her quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Rita passed away in Webster, South Dakota, at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 15 days.

She will be forever loved and deeply missed by her son, Robert Hamman of Webster; her five grandchildren, Alyssa Sargent, Gracie Olderness, Alexus Hamman, Jordyn Hamman, and Rylee Hamman; and her seven great-grandchildren, Abigail, Kylar, Atlas, Avilynn, Thorin, Ethan, and Kamree. She is also lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her five sisters, Amanda, Beatrice, Jenny, Leona, and Sally; and her two brothers, Albert and Sylvester.
