Robert "Bob" Schmidt, 90, of Bristol, SD, and formerly of Webster, SD, passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster and will be livestreamed on Fiksdal Fuenral Service Facebook page. Pastor Molly Leger will officiate. Military Interment will be at the Webster Cemetery near Webster. Visitation will be 1 hr prior to the service.
Robert William Schmidt was born on September 4, 1932, to Franklin and Elizabeth (Krause) Schmidt at Peabody Hospital in Webster, South Dakota. He was the youngest of five children. He was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Webster. He attended country school in Racine township. After his education, he enlisted into the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Jackson and served during war time in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1954.
He was united in marriage to Sharon L. Cross on June 2, 1961, at United Methodist Church in Webster. The family made their home in Webster where Bob worked for Marvin Ludtke, Gellerman & Loe, and Jim’s Electric, he retired in 1991.
Bob was a member of the United Methodist Church where he served on the board of trustees. He belonged to the American Legion, VFW, and was also a member of the Webster Fire department for 39 years. In previous years he spent time racing cars and repairing lawn mowers. Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Above all, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Bob passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Sun Dail Manor in Bristol, SD, at 90 years, 9 months, and 10 days.
He will be forever loved and missed by his children, Shawna (Arnie) Simon of Webster, SD, Shelli Schmidt of Webster, SD, foster daughter, Rhonda O’Daniel; 3 grandchildren, one great grandchild. Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sharon; son Scott Schmidt; three brothers, Arvin (Doris), Harry (Alice), and Franklin; one sister, Bernice (Earl) Drake; two grandchildren Eric Simon and Chad Simon.
