Roger Grimsrud, 94, of Webster, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Bethesda Home in Webster.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Friday, May 15, 2026, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Webster. Burial Will be in the Webster Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7pm Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the church.
Roger Lee Grimsrud was born on April 17, 1932 to Thelmar J and Anna (Rolsrud) Grimsrud at Britton South Dakota.
He was baptized in Kidder, South Dakota and confirmed at Trondhjen Lutheran Church in Marshall County South Dakota.
Roger attended country school in Marshall County and graduated from Britton high school in 1950.
On February 14, 1953. He married Olive Leona Ives at Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the Family farm near Hillhead, South Dakota. To this union two children were born, Royce and Lori.
Roger was employed in several jobs during the first years of their marriage. In 1966 they moved to Webster South Dakota where they purchased Grue Abstract Co. and later Huron Title company.
Roger was very active in many civic and church organizations. He was always willing to volunteer wherever he was needed. He loved to help others.
In 2007 Roger received the gift of life in the form of a kidney from his good friend Mark Levsen for which Roger and his family were always grateful.
Roger retired on July 1, 1996. Upon retirement he remained very involved and was busy with many Church projects. He also enjoyed working on the farm with his son Royce. He was a problem solver and was always happy when he could come up with a solution to a problem.
He enjoyed golfing and bowling and spent many hours hunting and fishing with friends and family. Roger looked forward to his annual Canadian fishing trip with Royce and Jim and whichever other family members could come.
Roger and Olive celebrated almost 72 years together. When Olive moved to the Bethesda Nursing Home, Roger moved to Heritage Apartments to be close to her.
They were best friends. He later moved to the Bethesda nursing home. He really appreciated the staff and the care that both he and Olive received while living there. Olive died on February 2, 2025.
While in the Nursing Home Roger enjoyed playing cards, bingo and attending church services. His friends there were very important to him.
Roger passed away Thursday, May 7, 2026 at Bethesda Nursing Home, Webster, South Dakota.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Royce (Lunette) Grimsrud of Veblen SD and Lori (Jim) Keller of Webster SD, brother-in-law Darwin Ives of Claremont SD, seven grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter and one great-great granddaughter on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Olive, grandson Robert Grimsrud and great granddaughter Emily Grimsrud.
