Ruth Ann Kungel

WEBSTER – Ruth Ann Kungel 78 of Webster passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side, on Thursday February 2, 2017 at her daughter’s home near Roslyn. Her funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Monday February 6, 2017 at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn, Pastor Mike McCarlson will officiate. Burial will be in the Roslyn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday 1-3 P.M. at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster. Ruth Ann Elmer was born on August 2, 1938 to Jacob and Wanda (Woroniecki) Elmer at Hebron, North Dakota. She attended school in Hebron graduating in 1956. After graduation, she married the love of her life, Willie Kungel. The couple made their home in Bismarck, where Willie was employed by Red Owl Corporation. The family relocated to various parts of North Dakota until moving to Webster, South Dakota in 1971. Ruth Ann and Willie owned and operated the Red Owl grocery store in Webster until 1991. In 1985, the couple moved to a home on Pickerel Lake. Willie passed away in 2003. Ruth Ann continued to live at their lake home until moving to a hobby farm by Roslyn and later to a home in Webster. She was a member of Eastern Star and the Lioness Club. She was also a member of Fron Lutheran Church where she served as the church organist for a number of years. Ruth Ann was a kind soul with a gentle heart. She had a quick wit and a contagious smile. Her great passion was for music, learning how to play most all instruments. She was a choir director for many years and played piano and sang at many funeral and weddings throughout the years. Above all else, she loved her family dearly. Ruth Ann passed away Thursday February 2, 2017 at the age of 78 years and 6 months. She will be greatly missed by one son Kevin (Nina) Kungel of Minneapolis, MN, four daughters; Kim (Mark) Hanson of Grenville, SD, Patty (Jay) Bjerke of Webster City, IA, Susan (Larry Koslowski) Kungel of Roslyn, SD, and Nancy (John) Swanson of Rapid City, SD. She is also survived by five brothers; Don (Ira) Elmer of Hebron, ND, Larry (Kathy) Elmer of Hebron, ND, Richard (Jeanette) Elmer of Glen Ullin, ND, Jack (Lori) Elmer of Hebron, ND, Jeffrey Elmer of Traverse City, MI, three sisters; Dolly Fitterer of Bismarck, ND, Barb (Bruce) Schatz of Elgin, ND, and Deb Dimond of Bismarck, ND. She also leaves behind her pride and joy, seven grandchildren; Tyler, Justin, Jordan, Dylan, Molly, Lucas, and Morgan. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Willie.
