She attended country school near the family home and graduated from Tyndall High School as valedictorian as well as serving as Betty Crocker Homemaker of 1956. She furthered her education at Southern State Teachers College in Springfield, South Dakota, graduating in 1958. After her education, Sharon taught at a number of schools including, Brandon Valley, South Dakota, Hudson, South Dakota, Garretson, South Dakota, and Askov, Minnesota.
Sharon met her future husband because of an overcrowded, college classroom that Lloyal was late to, and the only seat left was next to this girl he didn’t know. This was mid-April, and by December 19th, they became engaged and were married June 19, 1960, at Tyndall Methodist Church. The couple spent three weeks on a honeymoon road trip. While living in Beresford, Sharon worked as a cook for Bethesda Children’s Home. Although raising their five children was her most passionate job, she also worked at Dakotah Inc. in Webster and Jorgenson Meats in Waubay.
Sharon’s pride and joy were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed baking, making over 62 three layered German chocolate cakes from scratch for Lloyal’s birthdays over the years. She also enjoyed reading and was a member of a local book club. Breakfast was a favorite time of day for Sharon. She marveled over watching the birds and squirrels as well as other facets of nature. Her favorite TV programs were the PBS Mysteries as well as Hallmark movies, because they had happy endings! She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church where she was active in WELCA, bible studies, and also taught Sunday school in past years.
