Signe Loseth

ROSLYN – Signe Loseth 84 of Roslyn died on June 21, 2008 at Strand Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Her funeral will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Roslyn Lutheran Church in Roslyn, Rev. Sara Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in the Roslyn Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel on Tuesday 4-7P.M. and prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Signe K. Krefting was born on November 28, 1923 to Herman and Paludaa (Jensen) Krefting at Oslo, Norway. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Norway. She attended school in Oslo graduating in 1939. After graduation she attended college majoring in law. As a young woman during WWII she assisted her father as a messenger with the Norwegian Underground. After college she worked as a secretary for Remington Company in Oslo. On October 6, 1945 she was united in marriage to Sieus Loseth in Oslo, Norway. Sieus returned to the United States, but had to wait for Signe’s arrival on April 15, 1946. The couple made their home in Roslyn, South Dakota. In July of 1946 their only child, Carin was born into this world. In 1951 Signe became a US Citizen. After settling in Roslyn, Signe began work at the Roslyn Creamery as the secretary/bookkeeper. She worked there for 20 years. Afterward she was employed by the US Postal Service in Roslyn as Postmaster and continued to work there until her retirement in 1985 after 20 years of service. Mr. Loseth passed away in July of 1996. Signe continued to live at their home in Roslyn until June of this year when she entered Strand Kjorsvig Community Rest Home. Signe was a member of Sons of Norway, the American Legion Auxiliary, DAV (Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary), and Roslyn Lutheran Church. She was also a member of National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association and First Special Service Force Association. She enjoyed reading, traveling, fishing, knitting, crocheting, sewing, playing bingo, and spending time with family and friends. Signe passed away in Roslyn, South Dakota at the age of 84 years, six months, and 24 days. Survivors include: one daughter, Carin Staudenraus-Crosby and husband Wayne of El Mirage, AZ, one sister, Dorthea Bjelland of Tonsberg, Norway, one grandson Clayton, one granddaughter Therasa, two step-grandsons Brian and Jeff, and one great grandson Kaleb and one great granddaughter Tyler. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband.
