Stanley T. Aslesen, 89, of rural Waubay, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Bethesda Home in Webster.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Monday, July 28, 2025, at Egeland Lutheran Church. Services will be livestreamed via our facebook page. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday 1-3pm at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Egeland Cemetery Association.
Stanley Theodore Aslesen was born on July 20, 1936, to Theodore and Annie (Ronning) Aslesen at Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Egeland Lutheran Church. He attended country school through the eighth grade at Egeland 213 and graduated from Webster High School in 1954. Stan was a member of the South Dakota National Guard in his early years.
On November 13, 1960, he married the love of his life, Ardis Miller at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple made their home on the family farm near Egeland Church and raised their four daughters, Roberta, Laura, Sarah, and Martha.
Stan spent his entire life being a steward of the land at their rural Waubay home. He enjoyed farming and gardening often referring to his garden as his church. Spending time with nature in the peacefulness of God’s beauty. He was a lifelong member of Egeland Lutheran Church where he was active in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served as a deacon. Stan also enjoyed fishing, wine making, quilting, and macrame. He often joked that even though he had mastered these “ladies” hobbies, he still stood while he used the restroom!!! Stan had a kind heart and a gentle soul with an impeccable sense of humor.
Stan passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 89 years, and 3 days.
His memory will be forever cherished by his wife Ardis of Waubay, SD, daughters, Roberta (Tim) Cossette of Watertown, SD, Laura (Greg) Heupel of Waubay, SD, Sarah (Mike) Thury of Sioux Falls, SD, and Martha Aslesen of Las Vegas, NV. He will also be missed by his grandchildren, Joshua (Kim) Long, Lauren (Eric) Beehler, Jessica (Brandon) Zubke, Michelle (Ryan) Wells, Karen (Mike) Kreitman, Renae (Jarrod) Hudelson, Jacob (Jessica) Heupel, Matthew (Mary) Thury, Michael (Chrissy) Thury, and Zachary (Mollie) Thury, as well as 27 great-grandchildren and one on the way! He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Maybelle Rabuck and Marcella Gerber.
