Terry A. Johnson was born on December 13, 1944, to Donald and Hazel (Tofley) Johnson at Webster, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Webster. He attended school in Webster and graduated from WHS in 1962. After high school, he joined the South Dakota National Guard. Terry farmed along with his dad as well as working at East River Electric and Batie Implement. After retiring from farming, he worked at Jorgenson Meat Processing, Sturdavent’s, and Powder Tech.
On February 14, 1966, he married his best friend, Renae Buckley at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. The couple made their home on a farm near Webster and raised their two children, Jeff and Michelle.
After the passing of his father, Terry took over the farm and continued running the dairy operation. He also rode/broke horses, attended horse sales, and rodeos whenever given the chance. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, attending the state fair each year, gardening, and sharing his abundance of garden produce with family and friends. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix or build with his own two hands. He enjoyed coffee with his buddies at the Sportman’s Cove, catching up on the daily news and events. Terry was a devoted grandpa, who never missed an event for the grandkids and great-grandkids! He was their biggest fan and cheerleader, always! He was known to teach the kids all they needed to know in gardening, shooting a 22, fishing, and of course cleaning the fish after a good day of fishing.
Terry passed away, Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 79 years, 10 months, and 8 days.
He will be forever loved and remembered always by his wife of 58 years, Renae, son Jeff (HteeNa), daughter Michelle (Darrel), seven grandchildren, Cassie (Landon), Josh (Kristy), Myles, Ne Soe, Eh Khu, Nitya, Jhon Htoo, and four great-grandchildren, Graham, Cameron, Oliver, and Arianna. He is also survived by sister-in-law Babette (Clark), brother-in-law Marv, nieces Megan (Cody) and Tina (Ricky), nephews Steve (Terri) and Craig, cousins Barb (Chuck), Steve, and many other cousins, family and friends.
