Therese Boik, 88, of Webster passed away surrounded by her family Tuesday October 6, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Temecula, California. Mass Of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday October 24, 2020 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Webster. Burial will be at St. Otto’s Cemetery near Webster. Due to Covid-19, the family respectfully requests masks be worn and social distancing be practiced. Closed casket visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Therese Leone Gaikowski was born on May 16, 1932, in Watertown, SD to Frank and Esther (Jutting) Gaikowski. She was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Church in Watertown. In 1936 the family moved to a farm north of Webster. Therese attended rural schools and St. Otto's School in Webster. She attended Mount Marty High School in Yankton, SD from 1946 - 1950. After graduation she taught in country schools in Day County and later attended and graduated from Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD with a degree in education in 1971. In 1953 Therese married the love of her life, Stanley V. Boik, at St. Otto's Catholic Church in Webster. They made their home in Aberdeen where Therese continued to teach in Brown County Rural Schools and Aberdeen Public Schools. In 1963 she and her family moved to Webster. By April 1964 their family was complete with six daughters: DeAnn, Sandra, Joni, Lori, Janine, and Darcy. Therese continued her career teaching in Waubay from 1963 - 1965 and then taught for the Webster School District for the next 32 years. She attended the National Convention in Florida as a South Dakota Delegate for NEA. She retired from teaching in 1997. Therese was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church where she belonged to the Altar Society. She was a council member and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Therese's zest and love for life kept her very active. She belonged to various organizations such as Progressive Reading Circle and Red Hat Organizations. She especially enjoyed her Tuesday morning coffee outings with other retired teachers. She and Stanley spent their winters in California. They had some wonderful experiences traveling to Europe, visiting the Vatican, and taking cruises. A strong faith in God and family were always important to Therese. She loved and took pride in her husband, girls, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was close to her nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in laws. They, along with many dear friends, were always welcome in her home. She captured the heart of so many. Therese: wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, friend, and beautiful angel, was called home on October 6, 2020 at the age of 88 in Temecula, CA. Survivors include five daughters; Sandra (Tim) Simon of Webster, SD, Joni (Randy) Tolvstad of Mellette, SD, Lori (Michael) Vargas of Temecula, CA, Janine (Jon) Jacobs of Spring Creek, NV, and Darcy (Dean) Jensen of Lakewood, CO; one son-in-law Neal Beitelspacher of Fargo, ND; one brother Larry Gaikowski of Peoria, AZ; 14 grandchildren, Tanya, Nikki, Blake, Chad, Chris, Jeremy, Justin, Jackie, Trey, Elizabeth, Jaron, Jenna, Haley, Grant, and 12 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, DeAnn, three sisters Pauline Sass, Marian Zollar, Lorraine Lesnar, and three brothers, Donny, Richard, and Roger.
