Vanessie Jost

April 23, 1925 — October 12, 2022

Vanessie Jost, 97, of Bowdle and formerly of Waubay, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at the Bowdle Nursing Home.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at Egeland Lutheran Church near Waubay. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at the funeral home.

anessie Morna Jorgenson was born on April 23, 1925 at Webster, South Dakota to Adolph and Laura (Rid) Jorgenson. She attended country school near the family farm and graduated from Waubay High School in 1942. After her education she moved to Fargo, North Dakota for a short time until returning to Waubay.

 

On October 17, 1945, she was united in marriage to John Jost at Aberdeen, South Dakota. To this union two sons were born. Larry and Dan. The family made their home on the Jost family farm where they farmed for many years. Vanessie was a homemaker but was also very active in the farming operation. Whether it be combining or driving any equipment when needed, she was up for the task and played a

vital role on the farm. 

 

John passed away in 1989. Vanessie continued to live on the farm until flooding in 2011 forced her to move. At that time, she moved to Mobridge to be close to her son and in 2019, she moved to the Bowdle Nursing Home where she was currently residing.

 

Vanessie was a lifelong member at Egeland Lutheran Church where she was active in ladies aide and taught Sunday school. She was also very active in the women’s quilting group

who crafted beautiful quilts for church

fundraisers over the years.

 

Vanessie passed away Wednesday October 12, 2022 at Bowdle, South Dakota at the age of 97 years, 5 months, and 19 days.

 

She will be greatly missed by her son Dan Jost of Mobridge, SD, Grandsons, Michael (Jenifer) Jost of Fremont, NE and Brian (Aimee) Jost of Sturgis, SD, and three great-grandchildren, Liam, Sullivan, and Morgan. She is also survived by three brothers Orville Jorgenson and Orvis Jorgenson both of Webster, SD, and Ivan (Margaret) Jorgenson of Waubay, SD, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Larry Jost, brother Marvin Jorgenson, sisters Mildred Engelhart, Grace Foltz, and Helen Gulbranson.
