Victoria (Vicki) Schimmel, 77 of Webster died on Monday, March 30, 2015 at her home in Webster. Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. Terrill and Rev. Sara Sorensen officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Mound Cemetery near Butler. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday 5-7 P.M. and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Vicki was born on Tuesday, March 1, 1938 to Sylvester and Constance (Oslowski) Block at Waubay, South Dakota. She grew up on a farm near Grenville, South Dakota. She attended parochial school in Grenville. In 1960 Vicki married Gilbert Birkholm and they made their home in Santa Ynez, California for 16 years where she was the manager of Danish Maid in Solvang, California. Through this union of wedlock they were blessed with two daughters Sandra and Kellie. After Gilbert’s passing Vicki then moved back to Watertown, South Dakota. In 1976 Vicki married Larry Schimmel and they made their home in Butler South Dakota on the family farm where thru that wedlock they were blessed with their daughter Ann . In 1990 she began working at Dakota Diner in Webster as a cook. Larry passed away in 1995. After his death she moved to Webster where she continued working at Dakota Diner until retirement. For a few years after retirement she lived in Sioux Falls and then returned to Webster. Vicki enjoyed spending her free time playing cards, going to bingo, cooking, gardening, watching television and spending time with her friends and family. Vicki, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many, lost her short, but courageous battle with liver cancer on Monday, March 30, 2015 at her home in Webster, South Dakota at the age of 77 years and 29 days. Survivors include her three daughters, Sandra (Jim) Janisch of Sioux Falls, Kellie Brakke (her fiancé Jim Zard) of Mitchell, Ann Dolney (her special friend John Lamb of Webster. She was also blessed with five grandchildren, Jamie Birkholm, Trevor Janisch both of Sioux Falls, Austin and Sydney Dolney of Webster and Mataia German of White Lake. Vicki is also survived by her six brothers Roger Block of Florence, Rick (Diane) Block of Wallace, Ron (Doria) Block , Allan (Claudette) Block, Junior (Donna) Block all of Watertown, Wayne (Michele)Block of Arlington, and seven sisters, Ramona(Rich) Whitlock of Watertown , Patricia Kinker of Sioux Falls, Bridgett Buffkin of Green Sea SC, Wanda (Walt) Antijunti of Watertown, Audrey Pearson of Watertown and Becky (Dave) Marsh all of Watertown, and Denise (Ron) Wulf of Kulm ND. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and two husbands.
