Virginia Dolney was born on Friday September 11, 1931 at Waubay, South Dakota to John and Katherine (Peplinski) Dolney. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Grenville, South Dakota. She attended country school until the eighth grade. Education being so important to Virginia, she studied and attended class to obtain her GED in 1974. She took great pride in this accomplishment. On June 23, 1952 she married Ervin Gollnick at Grenville. The couple made their home on the Gollnick family farm east of Webster. Together they farmed and raised cattle, pigs, and chickens. In 1995, the couple retired, but remained living on the farm. During the summer months, Virginia and Ervin thoroughly enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Pickerel Lake. In November of 2001, the couple moved to Aberdeen for health reasons. Ervin passed away on February 12, 2003. In 2004, Virginia returned to Webster to reside at Bethesda, where she was currently living. Virginia was a lady of many interests and talents. She had a great passion for reading, especially biographies and autobiographies. She read anything she could get her hands on often commenting that she had read nearly every book in the Webster Library. She was known for her delicious angel food cakes and lefse. Although she didn’t care to get her hands full of dirt, she had an exceptional “green thumb”. Virginia was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar Society in past years, Lake Region Rustlers Extension Club, Day County Election Board, and also was an active 4-H parent. Virginia passed away Saturday October 26, 2013 at Webster, South Dakota at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 15 days. She will be forever loved and greatly missed by her daughter Debra (Duane) Hemmah of Webster, SD, grandson Andrew (Jennifer) Hemmah of Fargo, ND, granddaughter Paige (Alan) Baskerville of Storm Lake, IA, four sisters; Irene Pekron of St. Paul, MN, Francis Streier of Maple Grove, MN, Georgine Schuster of Elk River, MN, Alyce (Darold) Michlitsch of Clear Lake, MN, and many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers; John Dolney and Richard Dolney, and three sisters; Esther Kwasniewski, Grace Kwasniewski, and Isabelle Pischke.
