Virgina Randall, 89 of Waubay died on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday, March 17, 2014 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Waubay. Burial will be at a later date at Lakewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the church in Waubay on Sunday beginning at 5:00 P.M. followed by a 7 P.M. Rosary Service.
Virginia Ann Burchardt was born on February 22, 1925 to John and Dora (Snaza) Burchardt at Chicago, Illinois. The family then moved to the Waubay, South Dakota area. She was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. She attended parochial school in Grenville, South Dakota. After her education she moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where she worked at the Pillsbury Flour Company for a few years before returning to Waubay. Upon her return, she cleaned at Dinkles’ Resort on Enemy Swim Lake near Waubay and this is where she met Gerald.
On September 10, 1947 she was united in marriage to Gerald Randall at Waubay, South Dakota. The couple made their home in Aberdeen, South Dakota until returning to Waubay in 1950. In 1959, the couple purchased a farm in Egeland Township near Waubay. Virginia was a very hard worker and helped with all the farming, including milking cows by hand. She and Gerald farmed until their retirement. Gerald passed away February 11, 2008. Virginia then moved to assisted living in Florence, South Dakota where she resided until her passing.
Virginia was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (for 50 plus years) and the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Altar Society. She enjoyed talking on the telephone, reading newspapers and magazines, watching television, cooking, baking, and especially visiting with family and friends.
Virginia passed away Wednesday March 12, 2014 at Watertown, South Dakota at the age of 89 years and 18 days.
She will be greatly missed by three sons; Gary (Marilyn) Randall and Roger (Kathy) Randall both of Watertown, SD, and Darin (Christy) Randall of Waubay, SD, one daughter Carol (Duane) Gaikowski of Waubay, SD, one sister Rita Hagen of St. Paul, MN, thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, one brother John Burchardt Jr., and one grandson Jeff Randall.
