WEBSTER- Willis “Brownie” Green, 84 of Webster died on Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Johnson Center in Bristol. His funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 30, 2007 at American Lutheran Church in Webster, Rev. Jan FitzGibbon officiating. Burial with military rites will be in the Webster Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday 5-7 P.M. and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Willis “Brownie” Charles Green was born on Monday, December 18, 1922 to Thomas and Rosa (Laabs) Green near White, South Dakota. The family made their home near White where Brownie grew up. He attended country school near his home. The family then moved to the Bradley, South Dakota area and he worked for the Upton family. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. After he was discharged he returned to the area. The Upton family moved to Webster and operated a farm equipment business and Brownie also moved to Webster and worked for them as a mechanic. On June 14, 1947 he married Frances “Putsy” Hallstrom at Webster, South Dakota. After their marriage the couple continued to live in Webster. The Upton business then burned down and in 1961 Brownie went to work for the John Deere Farm Equipment dealer in Webster and worked there until his retirement in 1988. After retirement he made a shop in his garage and repaired lawn mowers and small engines. His wife,Putsy, passed away in February 1999. After her death he remained in his home until the past few months when he resided at the Johnson Center of Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. He was a member of Herbert McKennett Post 40 American Legion of Webster and was a former member of the Webster Clay Bird Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to take nickels from you playing cards and taking with friends and family. Brownie passed away on Friday, August 24, 2007 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 84 years, 8 months and 6 days. Survivors include two brothers, Wilbur Green of Watertown, SD and Melvin (Evelyn) Green of Russellville, OH; and two sisters, Marie Egeberg of Brookings, SD and Elma (Harlan) Herr of Webster, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother and four sisters.
