WEBSTER- Wilmar Schimmel, 75 of Webster died on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Sun Dial Manor in Bristol. His funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Fiksdal Funeral Chapel in Webster, Rev. Janet Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Bristol Cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Home on Monday 5-8 P.M. (with prayer service at 7 P.M.) and prior to services on Tuesday. Wilmar Francis Schimmel was born on Sunday, March 12, 1933 to Francis and Violet (Herr) Schimmel near Butler, South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed at Butler Lutheran Church and attended country school near his home. After he received his education he farmed with his father in the Butler and Andover areas. In 1954 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and received basic training in the states and spent a year and one half stationed in Germany until he was honorably discharged in 1956. After the death of his father in 1957 he farmed with his mother. On November 14, 1959 he married Joanne Esche at Webster, South Dakota. To this union were born three sons, an infant who died near birth, Kim Wilmar and Michael Jon. The couple farmed near Andover and in the Frankfort-Ferney areas. They moved to Webster in 1967. He worked for Anderson Feed & Seed Company and Interstate Seed. Joanne passed away in 1968. In 1975 he married Susanne Wright at Webster. To this union two daughters were born, Kathy Sue and Lorrie Ann. The couple were members of First Baptist Church in Webster where Wilmar was rebaptized. After their marriage the couple continued to make their home in Webster where Wilmar worked for Bill Davis on his farm south of Waubay. Susanne passed away in 1979. He then retired because of poor health in the early 1990’s. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and enjoyed sharing the bounty with family and friends. Wilmar passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Bristol, South Dakota at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 5 days. Survivors include his sons, Kim (Julie) Schimmel of Bristol, SD and Michael Schimmel of Tennessee; two daughters, Kathy (Steve) Schmidt of Sisseton, SD and Lorrie Riemann of Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Elizabeth Schmidt and Billy Riemann; two sisters, Coleen (R.V.) Grimes of Bristol, SD and Carolyn (Arden) Becker of Marion, SD; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Alvin Schimmel, both wives, a son in infancy and an infant brother.
